Why a Road Trip?

The ultimate symbol of freedom is a road trip. Where to travel, how long to stay, and which detours you take are all up to you. Road travel allows you to explore at your own leisure, unlike trains or airplanes. The trip is as thrilling as the destination, whether it's a cross-country excursion or a weekend escape or a road trip along the sea coastal. You can mix a variety of destinations to add various thrilling experiences on your road trip.

Pre-Trip Preparations

Before you hit the road, there are a few things you need to check off your list.

#1. Choose Your Destination

Although a road trip should ideally have a final destination for the day, sometimes I've gone on road trips without planning one, just moving in the direction I felt like going. The thing is, you might end up needing to stop and search for places on the road, which can be tricky. So, it's better to plan ahead and choose a destination for each day. Here are some tips.

  • Just think about which direction you want to head. North, south, east, or west. You can get a idea from searching for possible road trips from where you are now. If you are in Denver search for road trips from Denver.
  • Start small if it’s your first time. Don’t think about wider range at first. You can pick a destination within a few hours’ drive without overthinking.
  • Research scenic routes to hit your chosen destination like the Pacific Coast Highway or Blue Ridge Parkway.
  • Use apps like Google Maps to plan your route and then find attractions along the way. Choosing of attraction may vary with your type of trip which is it’s a couple trip, family trip, a solo one or road trip with friends.
💡
When choosing a road, make sure to research the road conditions as well

#2. Check Your Vehicle

Keep your car in good condition because it's your vacation companion.

  • Get your car tuned up by checking the brakes, lights, tires, and engine/ break oil levels and coolant level. And if you have the pressure pump don’t forget to take it.
  • Bring jumper cables, a car jack, and an extra tire.
  • Make sure your vehicle's registration and insurance are current.
🌟
If your vehicle is a 4x4, check whether it's working properly.

# 3. Plan for Stops

  • Plan to refuel and stretch your legs every two to three hours.
  • To make the trip enjoyable, look for parks, eateries, or quirky roadside sights.

# 4. Download Maps

In remote locations, cell service can be unreliable.

  • Download offline maps on Google Maps
  • If you are going to a rural area it is good to have an updated printed map in that area

#5. Packing Essentials

A road trip can be made or broken by how well you pack. This is what you will require.

For Your Car

  • Emergency kit: Flashlight, batteries, duct tape, and basic tools.
  • First aid kit: Band-aids, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers.

Traveling long distances without enjoyable diversions can become boring.
